  1. Is AiBST a private company, an NGO or government institution?

AiBST is not an NGO or a governmental institute. AiBST is registered with the registrar of companies as a private research and educational institute. It is further registered with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education as a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution. AiBST is a not-for-profit institute.

  1. Where does AiBST get its funding?

AiBST gets its funding from various sources. The main ones being research and educational grants won in responses to competitive applications. Donations in cash or kind also contribute to AiBST funding. Income generating activities such as training courses, diagnostic services, contract research work or service work are also major sources of funding.

  1. How do I study at AiBST?

You can study at AiBST through different ways including the following (1) through collaborative arrangements between your university/institute and AiBST, (2) through your personal initiative to work on research topics in-line with activities at AiBST, (3) through research attachment programmes either initiated by yourself or collaborations between your institute and AiBST, and (4) through applying for our postgraduate courses and certificate courses in various biomedical science and technology topics.

  1. Can I register to do my postgraduate degree (MSc/MPhil or PhD/DPhil) with AiBST?

AiBST is not registered to award postgraduate degrees. All the postgraduates studying at AiBST are registered with other universities who will award them the Masters and Doctoral degrees. AiBST will provide the scientific and technical research training in frameworks where the main supervisor will be from a university the student will be registered and a senior AiBST scientist will be their co-supervisor.

  1. How do I go about postgraduate degree studentship at AiBST?

If interested in doing your postgraduate degree at AiBST, you can approach a senior scientists at AiBST or a department conducting research in your area of interest to discuss potential topics of interest. Together you can discuss a suitable university with which to explore your official registration and the identification of a University supervisor on the proposed research topic. Thereafter a collaborative framework between the chosen University is established towards your postgraduate training. You can also first identify a university of your choice and a university supervisor and jointly approach AiBST with a proposal for you to do part or all of your work on an agreed topic at AiBST. If the topic and framework fits into AiBST biomedical research agenda, an AiBST co-supervisor will be nominated.

  1. Does AiBST provide Scholarships?

NO, AiBST does not provide scholarships so do not apply to AiBST for assistance with your tuition fees or any other financial support. For you to study at AiBST you must secure your own means of support.

  1. Does one pay bench fees when studying at AiBST?

YES, you pay bench fee to offset the cost of reagents you will be using and contribute to maintenance costs of equipment.

  1. Can one apply for employment at AiBST?

One can only apply for employment in response to an officially announced vacancy either on this website or in various media. AiBST does not accept or even consider unsolicited applications for employment.

  1. How do I register for courses and certificate level training programes at AiBST?

From time to time, AiBST will post adverts on training programs it will be conducting. The Postgraduate Biomedical Training Courses are run on 6-monthly cycles, January to June and July to December.
