Meet The Team

Prof. Collen Masimirembwa

President and Chief Scientific Officer Prof. Collen Masimirembwa is a Biomedical Pharmacologist with research expertise in Pharmaceutical and Genomic Medicine. He graduated with a BSc Hons degree in Biochemistry and a DPhil in Biochemistry from the University of Zimbabwe and a PhD in Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. After a postdoctoral fellowship at Uppsala University, he spent 10 years working as a Principal Scientist at AstraZeneca Pharmaceutical company in Sweden before establishing the African Institute of Biomedical Science and Technology. Collen has made importantdiscoveries in genomics that are of clinical relevance to the safe and efficacious use of medicines in African populations. As a research leader, he has attracted major research grants from funding organizations and pharmaceutical industry. Collen has always combined innovative research with capacity building with respect to infrastructure and skilled manpower.For his contributions to Science he has won many national and international awards, fellowship to academies of science and professorships at many prestigious universities.





Dr. Justen Manasa
Director of AiBST Laboratories Dr. Justen Manasa is a Molecular Virologist registered with the Medical Laboratory and Clinical Scientist Council of Zimbabwe (MLCSCZ) as a clinicalscientist. He has more than ten years international experience in molecular diagnostics, viral evolution and bioinformatics. His interests are leveraging advances in genomic technologies to provide innovative healthcare solution in resource-limited settings. He has postdoctoral training from Stanford University in California, USA and University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban SouthAfrica. His undergraduate and masters are from University of Zimbabwe and PhD from University of KwaZulu-Natal. He has previously worked as an Associate Director at AiBST and as a medical laboratory scientist for the public health laboratories in Harare, Zimbabwe. He is also currently a senior lecturer in medical microbiology and the chairperson of the division pathology at the University of Zimbabwe’s College of Health Sciences







Mr. Egias Musundire
Egias Musundire is the Finance and Administration Officer. Professionally,Egias has successfully completed CIMA, ACCA, IOBZ and MBA with University Of Zimbabwe. Locally he has gathered working experience from various sectors of the economy such as banking and manufacturing sectors.For a period of three years he worked in South Africa for a big advertising company that has operations in more twenty five countries in Africa. Egias has recently attended EDCTP (European & Development Countries Clinical Trials Partnership) Financial And Project Management Training in Johannesburg,South Africa. The professional studies completed, international and local working experience gathered over the years become part of the valuable tools in decision making on daily basis. Being part of the team in a biomedical research institution has inspired Egias Musundire to keep pushing for continuous development in order to give the research team optimum support.






Mrs Geoginah Nyabadza
Georginah Nyabadza Public Relations is a research nurse. She is a certified nurse and holds a BSc degree in Nursing. In addition she is a qualified counselor. Georginah has been with AiBST for more than 5 years playing a major role in the clinical trial study implementation and genetic counseling for the DNA testing services. In AiBST Management, he role is to enhance AiBST image locally and internationally, manage relationships within and without the company for more efficient operations.











Dr. Roslyn Thelingwani
DMPK & BAC and Head of Forensic Science Dr Roslyn Thelingwani is a preclinical Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) scientist with research focus in the area of antiparasitic drugs and neglected diseases. She has more than 10 years experience in the area. She istrained as a biochemistry from the University of Zimbabwe where she did he undergraduate and master’s degrees in Biochemistry and Biotechnology. She then received her PhD from the University of Cape Town South Africa. Besides her research, she has supported many clinical trials and preclinical projects with bioanalysis on either the HPLC or mass spectrometer. She has also led a team that set-up the first DNA testing center in Zimbabwe at the African Institute of Biomedical Science and Technology. Other notable achievements include the set- up of the state of the art bioanalytical laboratory and ADME toolkit for screening new drug candidates for safety and ADME liabilities, again the first of its kind in Zimbabwe. A dedicated scientist and mother of two, Dr Thelingwani believes the sky is the limit and her ambition is expanding the Forensic Services and bioanalytical laboratory to a capacity that is able to support national and regional needs. She is currently a Global Health and Equity Scholar where she has received a grant to support her research on the safety and efficacy of praziquantel when co-administered with antiretroviral drugs, and the implications on mass drug administration programs. She has also received a supporting grant from The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for the same study.







Mr. Frank Muzenda
Next Generation Biomedical Scientists Program Frankis a leadership and business management consultant currently pursuing Master of Arts in Leading Innovation and Change with Robert Kennedy University, UK. He has 6 years’ experience as a high school teacher for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, 7 years’ experience as programs manager for several projects including Students and Community Leadership Development programs with LASOF Leadership Institute, World Vision and Econet Zimbabwe.He was part of a team that led a campaign of lobbying the government of Zimbabwe to revise the education curriculum to one that focuses on STEM and 21 st century competencies. This was done through a series of trainings at Universities, teachers’ colleges and schools around the country. Through the NGBS and SPARK program, Frank is working towards becoming the leading Innovation Architect in Sub-Saharan Africa, with special interest in connecting science education to development of scientific inventions and innovations. He believes, Africa must be visible on the global charts of inventive scientists.




Ayleen Mufudza
Ayleen Mufudza is a Laboratory Technologist She holds a Bachelor of Science Honors degree in Statistics.She has been with AiBST for 5 years. She joined AiBST as a Laboratory Technologist trainee after her high school, upgraded herself to a degree and rejoined the organization after her degree programme. At AiBST she manages the day to day run of the laboratory, as well as maintaining the storeroom stocks and inventory systems.
